Learn How Your Vote Can Help Animals at the Ballot Box This November
WHAT: Host or attend a “Party Animal” house party to learn how your vote can help animals in the upcoming November elections.
WHY: The November elections are just around the corner and many animal welfare issues will be decided at the ballot box. Voters in several states will be considering issues that affect wildlife, farm animals, and more.
Among the issues up for debate:
-
Michigan voters will decide whether to allow a new mourning dove shooting season or keep doves protected as they have been since 1905.
-
Arizona voters will consider a measure that would provide more humane treatment for pigs and calves on industrial factory farms.
-
Colorado and Florida voters will fight to protect their rights to campaign for and pass future citizen initiatives at the ballot box.
-
Portland, Oregon voters will consider a measure to protect wildlife by purchasing critical habitat.
ABOUT PARTY ANIMALS: Each party is an advocacy event and benefit for the Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF), the lobbying arm of The Humane Society of the United States. Hosts create their own individual web sites with a fundraising goal and email invitations to friends and family. Participants will be able to dial in to a conference line to hear directly from animal welfare leaders and special guests. Attendees can donate to the HSLF through a website created for each party site.
The “Party Animals” program involves like-minded people in our mission, energizes them to take action for animals, and offers networking opportunities. People come together on one night at one time for a party with a purpose. Party-goers from around the country enjoy their own festivities but all parties take part in a simultaneous nationwide conference call to hear speeches and presentations by leaders in the animal welfare movement.
SPECIAL GUESTS: Actor and animal advocate Paul Sorvino will join HSLF President Michael Markarian during the conference call with party hosts and guests around the country.
WHEN: October 8 Conference call starts at 7:30 p.m. EDT
WHERE: To date, 90 parties are planned in over 30 states. TO HOST OR ATTEND A PARTY: For information on hosting or attending a party, visit http://partyanimals.fund.org. MEDIA CONTACT: Belinda Mager, bmager@hsus.org, 646-469-4987
