Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection has formed an affiliation with the Humane Society Legislative Fund. We're excited to work with you to continue the important mission of MVAP: to pass animal protection laws at the state and local level, to educate the public about animal protection issues, and to support humane candidates for office.
Meet and learn more about the new leadership who will be working with you to further animal welfare protection in Minnesota!
Tim Culver II is the Humane Society Legislative Fund’s Minnesota Volunteer State Political Director. Tim graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in Philosophy and is currently in his final year of study at the University of Minnesota Law School, where he is earning a J.D. with a dual concentration in Environmental and Energy Law and Criminal Justice.
President and Founder of the University of Minnesota Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, Tim organizes events and opportunities that promote the study of animal law. He organized and funded a pilot-project at the Law School, which sent him and a teammate to Harvard Law School to compete in the National Animal Law Competitions. Tim has conducted legal research in a volunteer capacity for Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection, and recently completed legal clerkships with the Animal Legal Defense Fund, where he clerked for one term with ALDF's litigation team and for a second term with Joyce Tischler, ALDF's co-founder. Following his first year of legal studies, Tim was awarded a Human Rights Fellowship, in which he assisted final editing of an award-winning human rights book. He also recently completed an externship with Federal Magistrate Judge Jeffrey J. Keyes and currently works for the Ramsey County Public Defender's office as a Certified Student Attorney.
Tim enjoys kayaking, reading breaks, rock climbing, general adventuring, and dog-watching at local parks. Most importantly, he is thrilled to join the Humane Society Legislative Fund as Minnesota's Volunteer State Political Director.
Janice Tweet is the Humane Society Legislative Fund’s Minnesota Volunteer State Deputy Political Director. Janice works in the Minnesota State Legislature. Previously she worked as a legislative correspondent in the U.S. Senate. She holds a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of North Dakota, as well as a master of public policy degree from the Humphrey School at the University of Minnesota.
Janice has a lifelong passion for helping animals. Her earliest memories of animal welfare involve learning about the effect of oil spills on animal populations as a child and she has continuously sought to learn more about this and other issues facing animals.
Janice is the former board president of Minnesota Voters for Animal Protection, where she worked primarily on legislative and electoral issues. She also volunteers with Basic Animal Rescue Training (BART).
